The line between monsters and humanity is... thinner than I assumed.

[Vincent is heading off toward the forest. He walks quickly, with a great deal of intent in his stride, and his expression. It's made a little less dramatic by the fact that he's still mostly covered in pink dye, despite attempts to wash it off. But after the events of the draft, and then coming home to Remnants going crazy, he's still battling with the inner demons. His only consolation is that they're not as powerful in here.]

[Once he reaches the forest, he takes on the form of the Galian Beast, running around in hopes of letting the monster have some release while (he hopes) staying well away from people. Do you bother him anyway? Y/N/MAYBE]

[...And is that a tinge of PINK in the large wolfy beast's fur?]

[Terra is gliding around the deeper reaches of the forest, a glowing pinkish blur among the trees. Her bouts in this form aren't too long, but it's during one of those that she spots...something up ahead? Going to investigate, cautiously.]

[Galian Beast senses something VERY interesting, very suddenly. He growls deeply and looks around to find the source of the weirdness.]

[She didn't get very far before sensing the power of that...creature. Already skittish, Terra held back upon hearing that growl and began to glide away, hoping that she would earn less attention by backing off slowly instead of making a swift exit.]

[Something about all that strangeness is getting to Galian... and despite mental protests from the human host, he'll start flinging fireballs in her direction.]

[What the--Terra yelped as she barely dodged one fireball only to get singed by one grazing her. It stung, but she had no time to pause and heal herself. The Esper wove around the trees, trying to lose...whatever that was. After another fireball nearly strikes her, she casts Holy, sending balls of light to home in on the creature. She doesn't want to harm anyone, but hopes it at least surprises it enough for her to get a head start.]

[The Holy blasts straight into Galian, a powerful enough spell to knock him well off course, and to give Vincent a mental advantage over him. Inside the barrier, Galian's by no meas strong to stick around very long after such an attack. There's a struggle, and the beast pauses to grip at his head as a strange darkness surrounds him...]

[...and he morphs back into the shape of a man.]

[Terra glances behind her in time to see him revert, then wonders. He can't be exactly like her or she would have sensed it. Yet...could he be something similar? She slips behind a tree and reverts, then glances back over, trying to see how badly she injured him.]

[It takes him a moment, to reorient, still feeling the aftereffects of Holy. He's a relatively fast healer, but this will still take a while to shake off.]

[Cautiously, he gets up and eyes the area for that glowing entity. He'd sensed something unusual about it. The memory was recalled through Galian's sharp senses, which actually gave him a lot to go on.]

[Slowly, Terra moves away from the cover of the tree. She's still apprehensive about him turning into that creature again, but tells herself that if he's hostile, she'll just teleport.]

...are you okay?

[Fortunately for her, They aren't strong enough in here to change back right away. Even if they're still stirring around in his head, wanting to attempt otherwise.]

I am... [He eyes the young woman with his intense gaze.] ...and my apologies. That was unintended.

[She still looks him over as though making certain he doesn't need healing. If it wasn't his fault, then she's all the more concerned.]

So, you...lost control? What happened?

[Vincent sighs.]

I believe it to be an after-effect from the draft. Having such strong power returned to them... and then losing it once again... has left them unusually restless.

[yes. He said. "Them".]

Them...so there's more than one?

...what are you? Or they?

[A question she realizes can be easily turned on herself, but maybe it's worth it to answer, for once.]

There are four. Each monster is different in form and abilities.

[Amazingly, Vincent has no problems with explaining his weirdness.]

I was scientifically altered to contain them. I used to be human... but... now they are too much a part of me for that to be true.

[A pause, as some of Galian's memories surface more clearly.]

...You can transform as well?

I'm sorry. I know what it's like to be at the mercy of scientists, though...not like that.

[Scientifically altered...so, he could be like Kefka and Celes, in a way. They couldn't transform, but their power was due to an infusion. She isn't sure whether or not that news makes her more at ease with him, though it does cause some pity. There's a small nod at his question, since the answer is obvious.]

Yes. I wasn't scientifically altered, it's just what I am. I'm half-Esper. They're...beings of magic. I almost thought that--well, you reminded me a little of them, but your power didn't quite match theirs.

[It seems they cannot escape mad scientists on any world. Though her story does differ, it's at least something he can also understand.]

It's possible they have similarities... What are the Espers like?

[Silence for a moment. No one has ever asked this, so she has to put together an answer.]

They come in many different shapes and sizes; some look relatively human, others can appear as dragons or other creatures. Their magic varies greatly, too. One called Leviathan knew water magic, for example. He's one of those that appeared as a dragon. People can learn magic from Espers, even summon them.

...well, not here.

Summons? [There's a look of recognition in Vincent's expression.] Did you have... summmon materia on your world as well?

[Oh, so he does know what she's talking about. There's a pause at that last question.]

Well...we didn't call it materia, but when Espers died, they turned into crystals called magicite. People could then use magicite to summon. Is this like your materia?

It seems our worlds are similar.

Materia is a crystallized form of a substance drawn from the essence of the Planet... the Lifestream. Some materia possess magical or enhancing capabilities, and others allow summoning.

I see....

[Her brow furrows.]

Do you possess any here? I know they won't less us summon, but still....

I've found none.

[A pause, he glances around to be certain they're alone.]

...but with the recent discussion of summoning, perhaps that will change.

[She nods, growing a bit more serious.]

I was thinking the same thing, earlier. I'm...not sure how to feel about it. I heard there were consequences.

A predicament with no certain answer. Using it may prevent catastrophe here, but at the risk of our worlds...

My world...the last I remember of it, it was nearly destroyed. I'm not sure what harming it further would do, but I don't want to be responsible for it.

[She bites her lip.]

Yet, what if we need them, if they recruit us?
